40th Anniversary – Virginia and North Carolina
Beth and I decided to take a trip to the Hampton Roads VA area (where we were married in 1985) and the Outer Banks of North Carolina (where we went on our short honeymoon). This is our 40th Anniversary, and we thought it would be fun to meet Spencer, Lauren, and Owen there to watch the big Air Show at Langley Air Force Base, which was our first assignment.
On Day 01, we drove from our home in Morgantown WV to Williamsburg VA, which would be our “home base” for the next 5 days. After settling into the hotel, we joined a good friend for dinner at Bubba’s Seafood Shack, which she highly recommended.

When we were stationed at Langley AFB from 1985-1989, I often roomed with a trombonist Dave Blackstock when the band traveled. He and his wife, Debbie, became good friends who we kept in touch with over the years. Whenever we were in the area, we would try to meet for dinner and catch up on the latest news.
Unfortunately, just a month before our trip, Dave passed away unexpectedly. We were shocked and heartbroken.

It was sad eating without Dave, yet we had many laughs remembering funny stories about our times together nearly 40 years ago.
After the long drive today (300+ miles), we were worn out and headed back to the hotel for a good night’s rest. See you tomorrow!
