Joplin, Missouri to Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma

Neither Beth or I had ever been to Oklahoma, so today was exciting.

We didn’t have to wait long since Joplin is close to the border.

Cue the music…….

Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain,
And the wavin’ wheat can sure smell sweet when the wind comes right behind the rain.
Oklahoma, ev’ry night my honey lamb and I,
Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk makin’ lazy circles in the sky.
The first part of Oklahoma was gently rolling hills, similar to parts of Indiana, Ohio, and Missouri.
Lots of farmland in Oklahoma.   It started to flatten out as we approached Oklahoma City and beyond.
West of Oklahoma City, near Layton, it flattened out for awhile.  But, in the distance, the hills were a sign of lots of changes ahead.
Low-flying planes – We must be close to Altus Air Force Base, OK.
We stayed at Altus AFB Lodging, and it was very nice!
Altus AFB Lodging – suite with living room, kitchen and laundry!  Clean clothes!
Plus, it was a 5-minute walk over to the Base Exchange and food court.

After another good night’s sleep, it was time to head out for Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis, New Mexico.
Join us for the next leg in our trip through the northern panhandle of Texas.
